Quilled Fusion Earring (Jhumka)

Jhumkas and silk sarees are traditional South Indian attire for weddings and grand occasions. The Jhumka is quilled into domes and attached using beads and danglers. The crystals and the flower shaped beads are chosen based on the color of the dress and user preference. These earrings are very lightweight and waterproof.

I have put together instructables for this at http://www.instructables.com/id/Quilled-Fusion-Earring-Jhumka/

Happy Quilling 🙂

Traditional Jhumka jewellery set

I received an order for a necklace set with a double layered Jhumka comprising colour combinations of golden yellow and maroon.

The dome shaped pendant is a challenging task in quilled jewellery due to the nature of the paper and its durability. It took me nearly 2 days to try out different combinations to make the pendant sturdy in order to hold its texture amidst rough use and to make it waterproof. There is a small Jhumka attached to the bottom of the pendant to enhance its beauty for grand occasions. The outcome was amazing and the appreciation received for that piece made my day.

I have already posted a similar one with the same colour combinations in my earlier post Jhumka- Double layer. I like exploring new patterns everytime and here goes the new design 🙂

Beauty of flowers in quilling

In continuation to my post on Wings of creativity here comes my other creation with vibrant colours of yellow and blue. The flower is quilled with comb technique and is decorated using glitters and crystals.

There is a fusion of metal, paper and crystals to add beauty to this piece. The jewelry can be created in many forms depending on the interest of the creator. The earring has a mixture of petal and a tiny dome shaped jhumka with a  dazzling dewdrop crystal.

When I took a break from my regular job, I was wondering what I should do next to keep me occupied. I enjoy life and look for avenues that inspire me. I love my creations and with that dedication the least I can expect is recognition for my creativity 🙂

Beads fun

My niece is a 3-year old staying in the United States and she has got this attraction towards “pink” in her dress, jewellery and her accessories. The other day my sister-in-law was feeling upset that her daughter had not changed her pink chain and bracelet for a month now; therefore she was asking me to make something for her in pink that is more attractive so that she could replace that wooden pink chain 🙂

I tried my hands on two different varieties of pink coloured chain and bracelet sets. One of them made with crystal beads with her name on it while the other with wooden beads and connected using an elastic cord. This should reach them in a week. Keeping my fingers crossed to see if the child approves them 🙂
