Indian Quilling Challenge Group turns 3 this month and we are celebrating with a Birthday Blog Hop! There will be no quilling contest this month.
Here goes my ‘Design Team’ project.
Birthdays would be incomplete without a cake. Cupcakes are a favourite to everyone; especially to those who have a sweet tooth and yet health conscious 🙂
How exciting would it be to have a cute smiley cupcake that wishes you a very happy birthday!!!

A happy family will not wait for a special day to express their love among their family members. In my opinion, Valentine’s day is celebrated by someone who wishes to express his/her love to someone for the first time. Age is not a barrier to express our love to someone.
My husband is not fond of flowers and during the early years of marriage I used to be upset with him for not gifting me flowers even though he gave me other gifts 🙂 Over the years, I understood that flowers alone can never bring happiness we seek, but the support and unconditional love that a person has towards you gives immense gratification.
I talk to my parents and in-laws everyday and give a patient hearing to their feelings be it in joy or in sorrow. I express my affection to them at every possible instance and personally believe that their blessings will help us to overcome any hardship.
Kids take us to a higher level of maturity in life by making us understand that inspite of testing our patience levels through the day, a warm good night hug at the end of the day will make us understand the true meaning of love in life.
As the saying goes “you reap what you sow” – be positive and show true love and affection to the people around you and you will surely see the change.

Some pics from memories.. Surprise cards made by my kids to us and to each other.
Birthdays for kids have become an high-end affair for the parents. I feel that the birthday party day is hectic for the parents running around to decorate the place, prepare or order snacks and hunt for return gifts. These days the kids do not leave the birthday party without return gifts handed over to them. Is that necessary? Return gifts turn out to be more expensive than the actual gifts that the child receives.
We as grownups may be setting a bad example by teaching kids to expect return gifts or gifts for all occasions. This thought should slowly change and the concept of homemade handicrafts should be encouraged; such as greeting cards, quilled crafts, baked items, loom bands, origami etc.
For my daughter’s 8th birthday, we had invited her close friends and I had requested them to gift her a simple surprise card – A card that talks about the qualities they liked in my daughter. This concept would not only boost their self-confidence but also help them sustain such skills.
Personalised handmade gifts are really appreciated and cherished. I have been gifting my quilled jewellery and encourage my kids to create cards for special occasions.
Kids are very creative these days and they refer to the Internet to design lots of crafts and jewellery.
Kindle your child’s creativity 🙂

We had an awesome card-making workshop with the kids for Teacher’s day. Kids created cards themed after books, pencils, ice-cream, super-woman and an embellished card concieved by the kids 🙂
I held this workshop as a pilot with a few kids. The kids loved making these cards on their own 🙂 Encouraged by the kids support and cooperation, I am definitely enthused and shall hold more workshops in future. Stay tuned!!!
Thanks to artsycraftsymom.com for the ideas on book shaped card and the pencil shaped card.

Here are a few clicks from the session:
This card was quilled for my daughter’s friend on his birthday. The theme of the birthday party was Space and Rockets. So I borrowed this theme and created a birthday card with a personalised message.

I am blogging to showcase my interests and as a testimonial to my passion for creativity. Over the last decade I have been engrossed with my job, family and kids. I decided to take a break from work and dedicate my energy and time to take care of my two wonderful kids – aged 9 and 5. My interests range from photography, cooking, quilling, poster/greeting card making to attending the Carnatic music classes with my kids.
As Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam said,
“Creativity is the key to success in the future, and primary education is where teachers can bring creativity in children at that level.”
“Learning gives creativity, creativity leads to thinking, thinking provides knowledge, knowledge makes you great!”
Through this blog, I would like to share my ideas to serve as an inspiration to the next generation.
