Do you want to build a snowflake?

December is the month of fun and holidays. Kids throughout the world eagerly wait to celebrate christmas especially for the gifts. My kids are so well-behaved during this month hoping to receive something nice by the end of the year even though we do not celebrate Christmas ūüôā

I thought of making an artefact to go with Christmas and what better than a snowflake to remind everyone of the fun and holidays.

Rolling the paper strips into loose/tight coils and creating various shapes out of that is my favourite technique. Snowflakes can bring out your best of creativity.

I have put together instructables for this at http://www.instructables.com/id/Do-You-Want-to-Build-a-Snowflake/

Quilled snowflakes may seem easy to make but takes lots of effort to assemble the tiny pieces together to create this wonderful pattern.

This snowflake glitters during the day and it glows in the dark with the radio-luminescent paint.

Happy New year folks..

Birthday gifts

Birthdays for kids have become an high-end affair for the parents.  I feel that the birthday party day is hectic for the parents running around to decorate the place, prepare or order snacks and hunt for return gifts. These days the kids do not leave the birthday party without return gifts handed over to them. Is that necessary?  Return gifts turn out to be more  expensive than the actual gifts that the child receives.

We as grownups may be setting a bad example by teaching kids to expect  return gifts or gifts for all occasions. This thought should slowly change and the concept of homemade handicrafts should be encouraged; such as greeting cards, quilled crafts, baked items, loom bands, origami etc.

For my daughter’s 8th birthday, we had invited her close friends and I had requested them¬†to gift her a simple surprise card – A card that talks about the qualities they liked in my daughter. This concept would not only boost their self-confidence but also help them sustain such skills.

Personalised handmade gifts are really appreciated and cherished. I have been gifting my quilled jewellery and encourage my kids to create cards for  special occasions.

Kids are very creative these days and they refer to the Internet to design lots of crafts and jewellery.

Hello there..

Hello there..

I am blogging to showcase my interests and as a testimonial to my passion for creativity. Over the last decade I have been engrossed with my job, family and kids. I decided to take a break from work and dedicate my energy and time to take care of my two wonderful kids Рaged 9 and 5. My interests range from photography, cooking, quilling, poster/greeting card making to attending the Carnatic music classes with my kids.

As Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam said,

“Creativity is the key to success in the future, and primary education is where teachers can bring creativity in children at that level.”

“Learning gives creativity, creativity leads to thinking, thinking provides knowledge, knowledge makes you great!”

Through this blog, I would like to share my ideas to serve as an inspiration to the next generation.
