Quilled Fusion Earring (Jhumka)

Jhumkas and silk sarees are traditional South Indian attire for weddings and grand occasions. The Jhumka is quilled into domes and attached using beads and danglers. The crystals and the flower shaped beads are chosen based on the color of the dress and user preference. These earrings are very lightweight and waterproof.

I have put together instructables for this at http://www.instructables.com/id/Quilled-Fusion-Earring-Jhumka/

Happy Quilling 🙂

Festival season

Indian festivals teach us the different traditions followed for decades. The first thing that comes to our mind about festivals is a new dress and matching jewellery followed by the variety of food items made for Neiveydhiyum/Prasad 🙂

I always like to have a matching jewellery for all my attire. When I started learning Quilling and the techniques, I was instantly fascinated with the dome shaped Jhumkas. The beauty of multi-layer and the brightness that this jewellery provides is outstanding.

This entry is for IQCG#21 – Make it Festive

The double-layered Jhumka is quilled into domes of two different sizes and were attached using beads and danglers. I quilled the earring using colour combinations of golden yellow and red to match with silk sarees. The dome shaped pendant is a challenging task in quilled jewellery due to the nature of the paper and its durability. There is a small Jhumka attached to the bottom of the pendant to enhance its beauty for special occasions.

Traditional Jhumka jewellery set

I received an order for a necklace set with a double layered Jhumka comprising colour combinations of golden yellow and maroon.

The dome shaped pendant is a challenging task in quilled jewellery due to the nature of the paper and its durability. It took me nearly 2 days to try out different combinations to make the pendant sturdy in order to hold its texture amidst rough use and to make it waterproof. There is a small Jhumka attached to the bottom of the pendant to enhance its beauty for grand occasions. The outcome was amazing and the appreciation received for that piece made my day.

I have already posted a similar one with the same colour combinations in my earlier post Jhumka- Double layer. I like exploring new patterns everytime and here goes the new design 🙂

This was a custom order from my friend who prefers light weight jewellery. She bought this to wear as an accessory for her dance performance. She preferred gold and violet colours to go with her saree.

Thanks to her for showcasing my jewellery and encouraging my creativity 🙂

Accessories for the dance event

My daughter Manasi (M) danced on the event of Onam festival in our apartment. She was supposed to dress up like a Malayalee girl 🙂 M being a tomboyish girl is very fussy about wearing ethnic dresses and jewellery. M wears the pavadai (Langa blouse) only on special occasions.

Based on the chosen colour combination of the dress, I made her a necklace, earrings and nethichutti with quilling and American diamond stones. M loved wearing those as they were light weight and that was a major accomplishment for me as a mother 🙂

Creativity can evolve based on the requirement and as an individual we attain fulfillment when the receiver appreciates whatever we deliver.

Kindly mail me your thoughts or feedback to indulge.creativity@gmail.com for me to get enthused to entertain you 🙂

Jhumka – Double layer

I made this for my friend on the occasion of Onam festival. The double-layered Jhumka is quilled into domes of two different sizes and were attached using beads and danglers. I quilled the earring using colour combinations of golden yellow and red to match with silk sarees. The golden stripes add elegance to the jewellery 🙂 Jhumkas and silk sarees are traditional South Indian attire for weddings and grand occasions.
